About
************************************************
Hi there!
I’m Jenny, a forty-ish lifelong Midwesterner, happily living and working in Chicago. The working part is important to note, because in 2004, after unceremoniously quitting my job (the one with the light blue cubicle), I found myself falling into the deep, dark funk that is a common side-effect of unemployment-related brain atrophy.
One day, after one of my regular rants about how I was certain that monster.com was run by a team of Scientologists who were actively trying to keep me out of the workforce for refusing to renounce Xenu, a friend stepped in to show me the way.
“Jenny, you really need to do something with yourself. Why don’t you start a blog?”
“A blog? Why do I need to start a blog?”
“Because it’s what all the cool people are doing now. Because I think you need an outlet to channel your creative energy. But mostly, because if I have to listen to one more of your HR conspiracy theories, I’m going to lose my mind.”
“Oh. Okay.”
To be honest, I wasn’t entirely sure what a blog was, or what I was supposed to do once I got one, but I was willing to try anything. Fortunately, there were only 28 blogs in 2004, so I quickly learned the ways of the blogosphere and adopted them as my own. And now, many years later, thanks to the intervention of friends and the interwebs, I can happily say that the right side of my brain is no longer on life support.
One of the hardest questions a blogger has to answer is, “So what do you write about?” In life, whether it’s due to some unquenchable thirst for knowledge or more likely, a lack of focus, I tend to be a generalist. A jack of all trades. A dabbler. So the stories I write here are reflective of that. I guess what I’m saying is that this site is kind of like the $9.99 buffet in Vegas. You’re pretty sure it’s not going to be the best meal of your life, but odds are good that there will be chocolate pudding.
So thanks for stopping by – take your shoes off and set a spell. Pudding for everyone!
– Jenny
